What Are Crowns and Bridges?

Reasons for Receiving a Crown or Bridge

You may need a crown or bridge if you have:

  • Damaged or fractured teeth
  • Severely decayed teeth
  • Teeth weakened after root canal treatment
  • Missing teeth that require replacement

How Crowns Work

The Crown Placement Process

1. Consultation and Examination

During your initial visit to MY Dental Studio, Dr. Yousuf will evaluate your oral health and determine if a crown is the best solution for your dental concern. Dr. Yousuf will take digital impressions to ensure a precise fit and discuss the crown material options that best suit your needs and preferences.

2. Tooth Preparation

To prepare your tooth for the crown, your dentist will gently remove a thin layer of enamel to accommodate the crown's thickness. This ensures a snug fit and maintains a natural appearance.

3. Impression Taking

After tooth preparation, another set of digital impressions will be taken to create a highly accurate mold of your tooth. This mold will serve as a guide for our skilled dental lab technicians to craft your custom crown.

4. Temporary Crown Placement

While your permanent crown is being fabricated, Dr. Yousuf will place a temporary crown over your prepared tooth to protect it and maintain your smile's aesthetics.

5. Final Placement

Once your custom crown is ready, you'll return to MY Dental Studio for the final placement. Dr. Yousuf will ensure the crown fits perfectly and matches the color and shape of your surrounding teeth. The crown will then be bonded securely in place, restoring the strength and beauty of your tooth.

How Bridges Restore Teeth

1. Assessment and Treatment Planning

During your initial consultation, Dr. Yousuf will assess your oral health and determine if a dental bridge is an ideal treatment for your missing tooth or teeth. Our team will explain the process, answer your questions, and tailor the treatment plan to address your unique needs.

2. Tooth Preparation

For traditional bridges, the adjacent teeth (abutment teeth) to the missing tooth will be prepared to accommodate dental crowns. These crowns will serve as anchors to hold the pontic (artificial tooth) in place.

3. Impression Taking

Impressions of your teeth will be taken to create a precise mold for the dental lab to fabricate your custom bridge.

4. Temporary Bridge Placement

While your permanent bridge is being fabricated, a temporary bridge will be placed to protect your prepared teeth and maintain your smile's appearance.

5. Final Bridge Placement

Once your custom bridge is ready, you'll return for the final placement. Dr. Yousuf will ensure the bridge fits comfortably and naturally. Once bonded securely in place, your bridge will restore your smile's functionality and aesthetics, and support the alignment of your surrounding teeth.

Why Should I Replace My Tooth with a Bridge?

Losing even one tooth can cause a range of dental problems, such as pain when chewing and excessive wear and tear on the surrounding teeth. Here are the primary reasons you should complete your smile by replacing your missing tooth with a bridge:

Improved Oral Function

Dental bridges fill the gaps left by missing teeth, restoring your ability to speak, chew, and bite properly. This enhances your overall oral function and makes eating and speaking more comfortable.

Maintains Facial Structure

Missing teeth can cause facial sagging and premature aging. Dental bridges help maintain your facial structure, giving you a more youthful appearance.

Prevents Shifting of Teeth

When a tooth is missing, adjacent teeth may drift into the empty space, leading to misalignments. A dental bridge keeps surrounding teeth in their proper positions, preventing potential dental issues down the road.
